Proposal
For my documentary project, I will focus Korean Adoptee Mentorship Program at Emory and how adoptee mentors and those groups contribute to Emory community. The topic of adoptee and adoptee mentoring can be unique and rare for many students and fellows in Emory, and it will be great idea to show what kinds of events that group did or still do to contribute to Emory community. Also, it will be interesting to hear why board members in KAME and other people want to participate in KAME. As a part of KAME, I always think that there’s unique meaning for not only mentors but also mentees, and all people can feel different elements in KAME. Finally, it will be good chance for me to figure out that either KAME events are community services or not. Most people can get the conception that board members or mentors are “helping” and “making” mentees to learn more about Korean culture. On the other hand, there are significant portions of people who think that mentors are “sharing” their knowledge to mentees to raise their awareness toward their identities. This is the main reason why I want to film about KAME; KAME can be unfamiliar for many other people in Emory community, and therefore helping mentees to raise their cultural awareness and having time with mentees can be great works that I can share.
I plan to interview two board members in KAME, and I will deeply ask about what events they do, why they join this club, and the opinion about community services. I also plan to interview one faculty that participated in those group's events. Finally, I will ask one or two of my friends to ask about the general conception about adoptees and adoptees mentors groups at Emory. I believe that this will change whole thoughts toward not only Korean adoptees but adoptees in general.
